I have a Gateway DX4870-UR23P, but haven't been able to find any info if it's PCIe 3.0 or older.

I am looking to buy a video card, so would like to know what to look for.

Thanks.

This will tell you what you have - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z/versions-history.h...

Thanks, but I don't see anything indicating what PCI-e version I have, unless I need to look for something else in that application.

Download gpuz, pcie slot info is under "bus interface". Click on the "?" next to it and run the render test.

It should ramp up to its max speed.

I must be completely blind or have a different version of the software. I do not see "bus interface" nor a "?" anywhere.

I'm curious, does it not show similar to this?

You can clearly see "bus interface"

The software is the newest version (1.69) and does not look like that. I believe your screen shows stats for the card inserted and not so much the slot itself.

My current video adapter is built-in, and thus does not show that info.

As far as I can see, I have the IVY bridge, which should be PCIe 3.0, however a footnote on wikipedia tells me that:

"For PCIe 3.0 capability, the Ivy Bridge CPU must have the relevant PCIe 3.0 controller built in. Some Ivy Bridge CPUs only have a PCIe 2.0 controller built in",

so I'm not further in my investigation.

If you have version 1.69 then that is CPUZ.

GPUZ is as pictured above, and has the info you need.

i3 ivy's have the 2.0, i5 and above are 3.0.
