The computer when turned on comes to a black screen that says "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected"....what should I do to fix this? When I press a key the message just keeps duplicating...

Try to get to the bios, by pressing delete/F12. There you should check which is your boot device, probably your only hard drive, select that, and after saving and exiting you be good to go.

Try entering the BIOS by restarting and trying the following keys at start up: F1, F2, F11, F12, DELETE. Those should get you into the BIOS. When you get there, try to find something that says "boot" or something to that effect. See what devices are available to boot from by navigating to the boot menu using your arrow and enter keys. Tell me what you see. A quick question. Desktop or laptop.

Do what I said earlier, if that fails, pop the side off and check the cables.

Yes! Also unplug your energy supply and make sure you are static free as possible (touch your case, take your shoes off, touch a tree or the grass).

If its an Asus motherboard, then its most likely F2 / Delete to enter Bios. Just click them a few times after turning on the pc (post message is usually set to 3sec delay for being able to enter without spam clicking the keyboard to death). And check there if your pc at all detects your HDD.

If not, open the case and unplug the HDD, check the cables for damage and re-plug them properly. You can also try and plug the cables in a different connector on the motherboard, to eliminate a faulty SATA connector.

Well right now it went to a diagnosis screen and says "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete" ....I will try what you said once it is done. Or should I do something different?

Just let the auto-repair tool run, and see if that fixes it. Just make sure that its just a normal repair that has initiated, and not the type that formats or resets your HDD to a previous "checkpoint". So you don't risk anything being deleted / removed from your drive.

Let it finish. This means that it has found the hard drive. It may be corrupted, and the repair may fix it.

Guys I don't know what to do, I unplugged and replugged everything and let the computer "repair disk errors" or whatever and it still is dysfunctional. I would find it very hard to believe that this is a serious problem because the computer is only 2 years old. What do you guys propose that I do? Do I have to buy new software, a new unit, get professional help, or call and get a walkthrough on potential ways to fix this? I really need to get this thing working or get a new unit by Monday because my work is dependent on filing my paperwork everyday. Also, I have thousands of files (that I believe are backed up on something) that are on this computer and that are essential for my work. ANY input is helpful, thanks.

I would get hep in your area. Sounds like the kind of thing I could fix if I were there, but sadly, I am not.
