If I get a new computer and re-download DayZ, will I lose my character?

I love playing DayZ, and I'm going to be building a computer, and I have a lot of progress in my character. I know it's normal to restart your character, but still. So if I re-download the game will I lose the progress on my character?

You likely will, unless they are stored server side (which they were SUPPOSED to be, but who knows if they followed through)

What you can do is backup/move your steamapps folder, which moves all your games, no DL, keep saves, no hassle.
