With money being no object in this decision, I would like to know opinions on the best motherboard, Has to be intel based, I am considering either the i7-4930k or i7-4960X. I am not into gaming but I need a lot of processing power and ability to multitask. What are your thoughts and why?

I am considering the ASUS Maximus VI EXTREME....?

Solution

He will need two Xeon processors (1500~2000$ Each) because two 4930k won't work with Z9PE-D8 WS!
Maximus VI Extreme is an LGA1150 Z87 motherboard and it's not compatible with 4930k, for 4930k you need motherboard like Asus Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition X79 LGA2011, and final you don't need 4960X because the difference in performance between 4930k and 4960X is 10%

why are you needing a lot of processing power , i see you have picked 6core cpu's , are you rendering , are you planning 2 or 3 or 4 way sli
are you wishing to use quadro's or normal cards , what multitasking are you doing this will help us determine a board to suit your needs

Ahmadjon - Thanks for catching the fact that processor and MB did not match, I feel rather silly that I didn't catch that myself.

I am the director of technology for a School district, I need to multitask a lot of programs that I have that monitor the network and use a lot of resources.

I am also doing some video editing for the schools sports teams (something I have done for fun in the past)

As I said I am not much of a gamer, so that is not important, I need to run tools for VMware, Microsoft, etc. that eat a lot of resources, adding in the ability to render video, also requires a lot of power.

Hopefully that gives a little better understanding. I have been out of the "Building" of computers for 5+ years and I know a lot has changed, but I want to build myself the best/fastest powerhouse that money can buy, because I have my own funds to be able to for the first time in my life.

Thanks for any assistance/advice you can provide.

Well if money isn't an issue that you can get server grade motherboard and server grade 12-core Xeon monster CPU!

I am reading a few things that are saying the second round of the HASWELL line is about to be released, with overclocking are they, because of them being a newer generation processor, going to be faster?
I'm know that I said that price is no object, which it really is not, I just don't know if I could spend that much on a processor and be ok with it.

You'll be fine with that Xeon E5-2697 V2 CPU, new gen CPU's won't give you big performance increase and you won't notice the difference between old and new gen.!
Also you probably saw Haswell-E which will be an 8-core CPU and it will be slower than 12-core Xeon E5-2697 V2 CPU!

From the sounds of it, you are looking at prob at most dual SLI, so might think the Asus X79 Deluxe (like the X79 Extreme Black, it's another new X79 model tailored towards the 49x0 CPUs), with a 4960X, 32-64GB of DRAM and maybe a 770/780 GPU or two

He needs mostly multitask :)

4960X and 32-64GB not enough processing power? I made no mention of gaming, suggested possibly up to dual SLI because for rigs like he has asked about (multi-tasking as the primary), I often build rigs like my own with multiple monitors - I'm not a gamer either, but run my 4770K at 4.6, 32GB of 2666, and a pair (currently) of 780s in SLI across 3 monitors a 32", and a pair of 27" ers....If I could justify the cost to myself (out of my pocket) I'd be running the X79 with 64GB, as is I often have both my Haswell and my IB running at the same time

It's enough but if his budget allows him Xeon why not to take?

Price to performance would be an objection to me from using it as PC standpoint. I can muti-task with the best of them, but a Xeon like that few individuals will tap into and use. Have seen servers that are heavy use and Xeons just sort of idling along.
