As the title say computer is Blue Screen of Deathing. I have installed and run WinDBG. No clue what any of it means tho. So here it is and hopefully someone can help me out.

From a quick look, the process that's running at the time of the crash is dota.exe. So you are playing DOTA when it crashes?

What are your system specs, include PSU, GPU, mobo, CPU? As manu asked, are you overclocking? Do you monitor the temperatures of your CPU and GPU while gaming?

No I'm not overclocking. And it's not only when I am playing Dota it just happens that this log is while I was playing dota.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($236.98 @ Newegg Canada)

Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ NCIX)

That's everything that is in my computer short of the RAM which is 1 stick of 4gig 1333 mhz muschkin ram.

No I don't monitor my temperatures. What program should I get to do that?

There are a few programs out there. I am presently using HWInfo, but SpeedFan and AIDA64 are also good programs. HWInfo and SpeedFan are free, AIDA64 has a demo mode that has some features turned off until you pay for it. All of these are good programs.

Like I said HWInfo is a what I use. You can monitor temps, voltages, and fan speeds.

okay what is a reasonable temperature to be running at?

I would download Memtest. You can get the ISO, burn it to CD / DVD or make a bootable USB stick. Run it and let it run overnight. If there is anything wrong with your RAM, you'll see errors when you come back. The longer you run it, the better. I've had RAM that ran for 3 hours with no errors, went to bed, when I got up, it was consistently erroring in the same cells.

Since you said that it can happen at anytime, not just gaming, I would be more interested in your CPU temp. For your i5, you should idle at around 30-35C at a room temperature of around 22C depending on the airflow in your case. Also check it when you load the CPU. Prime95 on small FFT's should load all four cores and give you a worst case scenario. Temps will jump to mid 60's to mid 70's depending on how your system is set up. Anything more than this and you may have a overheating problem.

How long should I let Prime95 run for? it did indeed jump to 68ish but it's only been running for 3 minutes.

Well if this were a overclock stability test, I would suggest letting it run for 4-8 hours. However we just want to see what the max temps are. I would let it run 5 - 10 minutes and note the maximum temperature. At 68 C, that seems pretty normal to me. So I'm pretty sure that your CPU temp isn't the problem. You could investigate the GPU temp while gaming if you want, but as you said, you don't have to be gaming to have the BSOD.

It seems at this point that you may have a memory problem. Memtest might be the next test to run.

alrighty well when I go to bed in a bit i'll throw up the memtest and we'll see. though last time I tested it nothing showed up.

So after like 30 minutes (if that) of running Memtest it picked up 470+ errors.... odd considering I've done that before and gotten 0 on 5 passes. Lol so I assume this means I need to replace my RAM? If so any recommendations?

First thing I would do is try to reseat your RAM in the slots there in. Remove them and then fully re-insert them. Then re-run Memtest. See if that makes a difference. If not, try them in the other slots, here I'm assuming you have two DIMM's and 4 slots since you didn't provide system specs. Again test to see if it changes.

If all that fails, then you'll have to RMA your RAM. Most RAM comes with a lifetime warranty.

I bought the RAM off of Kijijji from someone so I doubt RMA would work :p  yeah I did provide specs I'll try reseating an running memtest

Sorry, I forgot you posted your specs. As for RMA, yeah most likely they won't issue one without a receipt.

Do you have XMP profile on those DIMM's and if so are you running it that way or are is your motherboard set to Auto? Are you manually specifying anything to do with RAM timings, voltages, etc?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, I'd try setting them to Auto and retry Memtest.

DIMM stands for Dual Inline Memory Module. I assume that you have two, please correct me if I'm wrong. First try to reseat the RAM and retry Memtest. If that doesn't fix it, try one DIMM at a time and test with Memtest.

However it really looks like you have bad RAM, and since you can't RMA, then you may want to just fast track it and get new RAM.

April 2, 2014 1:56:13 AM

Ahhhh so DIMM is the slot you put ram into? yeah I already tried reseating in a new one and tested again. It didn't get any errors but then with in 24 hours it BSODed twice

I think your RAM is bad.

DIMM is the memory stick. How many sticks do you have?

I only have 1 stick of ram. 4 gigs. No I haven't run any virus scans lately or malware scans.

Well it certainly couldn't hurt to run some scans on your computer. However from the bluescreen errors and the fact that you did get errors on the first attempt at Memtest, I am leaning towards bad RAM.

Yeah that's what I'm assuming too.... I mean there's gotta be a reason the guy was getting rid of it for 20 buck. I got use out of it so I'm not that butt hurt. I'll keep using it and dealing til I get my new ram. Any suggestions?

Something like this would be fine:

Link

I like Corsair RAM. No point in going to crazy speeds as it's been shown the Haswell doesn't benefit a whole lot with high bandwidth and /or low latency RAM, so DDR3 1600 is probably the right choice. I picked the low profile stuff (no tricked out heatsink) to be sure that there's no conflict with your CPU heatsink. I also picked standard black, they have green and blue in the same stuff if that works better for your colors of your motherboard.

Memory Express is where I buy most of my stuff from. They have Uber Price Beat which means if you can find the exact same item cheaper somewhere else and that somewhere else has it in stock, if you give them the link to the advertisement they will beat it by 25% of the difference. You can't go wrong. So if you find it for $20 cheaper they will take that $20 dollars off their price plus another $5.

April 3, 2014 7:28:59 AM

Moving up to 16GB? Just so you know at least for the moment gaming doesn't benefit from more than 8GB. However if you use memory intensive software such as photo editing, it should definitely help.

I am including two kits, the first is pretty much the kit I already suggested only in 2X8GB and CAS 10 rather than 9. Something about the denser memory, they run it on looser timings. The other kit has a CAS of 9 if you want the tighter timings.

CAS 10 Kit

CAS 9 Kit

The CAS 9 kit is taller, so you'll want to have a look at your motherboard / heatsink combo to be sure you'll have enough clearance to install it. That is if you want this kit to begin with.

They had some other good kits listed, but they are presently out of stock, for instance Kingston Hyper X Genesis.
