Hi recently i was trying to clean my graphics card. However, the hard drive cables were blocking it so i decided to unplug them and then remove the card. I wasn't able to get the card out so I just inserted it back in and plugged the hard drive cables back. The computed turned on and took me to the bios. I then proceeded to try and boot to windows, installed on my hdd. However, it went to the "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software....." screen. When I try to boot Windows normally from there,it flashes a BSOD for a fraction of a second before going blank and restarting the computer. After searching for a while, I couldn't figure out the problem so I decided o post here. Your help will be very appreciated.

Graphics Card: Sapphire 7850
HDD: Western Digital 1TB Carviar Blue
SSD: Kingston 30GB (attached to the WD because its a ssd cache)

Seems to me that maybe your graphics card isn't quite seated correctly. I would attempt to remove it again, and then reseat it in the slot and see if that fixes your problem. It wouldn't hurt to check the SATA cables, but it's not likely that, if it were, you'd probably get an error saying that it couldn't find a bootable volume.

Thanks for replying so quickly :) I think that could be a possible problem. The last I checked, the card was in the pci slot but I wasnt completely sure if the tab was completely pulled back. The problem was that i had to slide my hand carefully between the cpu cooler and the backboard of the gpu. I tried to pull it back as far as I could though. Is there supposed to be any tension at the end of the motion?

UPDATE: I just realised that I hadn't put the card in properly, but this time i could hear it click when i pushed it in. Also realised the tab is only for removing the graphics card.

However, the problem still persists :(

Hey man, thanks for the advice... I did that and tried again but to no avail... here is the card slotted in

Also, could this problem be produced by the hard drive wires bending too much and thus breaking or something?

This is a dumb question because the system shouldn't even POST without it, but did you unplug the PCI-E power connector and if so, did you make sure its fully plug it back in? Usually if its not plugged in at all it won't POST, but I would try to reseat the PCI-E power connector just in case.

Hey man sorry for the late reply and thanks for replying again I really really appreciate it :)

When I try to run Windows 7 in safe mode, the BSOD flash happens again...

I didn't unplug the PCI-E power connector, but I couldn't be too sure because I was trying to remove the card that time... so I decided to check it out. My case is really cramped, so I didn't have the luxury of being able to reseat the cable. However, I felt barely felt the power cable with my fingertips and it seemed steady so I guess it's in?

I decided to run the "Repair This Computer" boot. The startup repair failed, the memory test told me that nothing was wrong with the memory..

I have the option of System restore, but it gives me a restore point really long ago and i don't really think my data is the problem because I haven't really installed anything bad...

I can also open a command prompt...could that be of use? I'm thinking of taking the computer to a shop for some diagnostic tests soon

Sorry for the really late reply. I have managed to get the problem fixed. Turns out that when I reconnected the hdd the bios config chagned to AHCI instead of RAID so it didnt work
