Hi all, newcomer to the forum so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I built my first pc this weekend, specs are:
Asus Z87-Plus Motherboard
Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core CPU
MSI Nvidia GTX 760 2GB DDR5 TF Fan
Corsair 8GB RAM (2x4GB)
Corsair TX650M 650W PSU
Windows 7 Home Edition
All parts bought new via Amazon.
Put it all in, turned it on and all the fans start going, things start whirring, but no video on my monitor- no BIOS, no boot screen, nothing. So I started troubleshooting (i.e taking things in and out) to find out which bit was playing up and found that without the 760 gpu plugged in the pc boots fine. At this point I decided to get the computer up first and sort out the graphics card later.
So now I have windows installed, have checked device manager and everything looks fine, but when I turn it off and put the GPU in I get nothing on my monitor.
Both of the power sockets on the gpu (one 6-pin and one 8-pin) have been plugged into my 650W psu and the fans spin, so don't think it's a power problem, and i've made sure that it's being put into the PCI 16 slot properly (it clicks down etc)
I've tried putting it in one of the alternative pci slots but it made no difference. Unfortunately I don't have any other way to find out if the gpu is faulty, bar taking it to a shop, as there is no other machine in the house to test it in. I believe I took the proper precautions when dealing with ESD, so don't think it's that either.
When I turn on the machine with the gpu installed there's no noticeable difference within the machine ( no warning lights turning on, hard drive not starting up etc). The Boot_Device_LED lights up for 9 seconds, this also happens when the pc does not have the gpu in and is functional. Could this mean that it is purely a video output problem?
I've plugged it into a monitor with a 15-pin vga cable, into the motherboard VGA socket, and I've also tried plugging it the vga cable into the DVI socket on the graphics card using the adapter that came with it. I haven't tried HDMI yet but could if someone thinks it would help.
Many thanks, I've tried to be as thorough as possible but if anyone needs any more info don't hesitate to ask.
