The bug is not with the CPU microcode, but with the chipset. Like their processors, Intel uses a single chipset die to create a large number of different chipsets; the H87 and Z87 are most likely identical in all but configuration. Features are enabled/disabled in a variety of ways, usually by either laser cutting or firmware lockout.

Intel released an updated chipset reference firmware package and requested that motherboard manufactures deploy it to their own platform-specific firmware packages. The purpose of this update was in part to block overclocking on the H87 platform.

If you wish to overclock on the H87 platform, you need to purchase a motherboard that features overclocking and hasn't deployed the new firmware.
