Any idea as to why my 7870 is performing horribly in some games?

So recently I fitted a vtx3d 7870 tahiti in to my pc, but even with increasing the power usage to 20%, Cleaning my old nvidia drivers and reinstalling amd ones and overclocking my fx 8120 (hotfix installed) from 3.1 ghz to 3.5 ghz, I still get about 25 fps on games like minecraft, when my gtx 560 could run them at 85, on borderlands 2 as well I'm getting between 120 and 25 fps depending on the environment which is really horrible during fights. On Bad company 2 I get about 50 when my 560 could run it at 60. Any help would be appreciated, because If this is down to the graphics card then I can't get it refunded any more, and I would have to save up another £150 for a 760 or an r9 270x.

Here are my specs:
650W corsair PSU
Amd-fx 8120 @ 3.1ghz
8GB RAM
1 TB HDD
asus m5a78l-m/usb3 Mobo
64 Bit Windows 7

PS: I've checked for overheating and its not the problem.

The CPU may be holding back your card. If the performance is worse than your old card, however, it may be a defective card. Contact the manufacturer to see if they can help.

I haven't tried contacting them yet, and it did have a black screen error before I upgraded my psu, so that could be the problem, It being defective I mean.
