I need help before buying a new keyboard with a mouse

So I've got my wireless keyboard and mouse with me right now on the box it says it's only compatible with windows xp and I have windows 8. Is there absulotelty no way of making the keyboard and mouse work for my new computer?

Without knowing the specifics of the keyboard and mouse...

- If they are USB, they should work just fine.
- If they are PS2, they might work just fine.

They are USB but they are not detected by my system....

What's the brand/model number of those devices, maybe the manufacture has some updated drivers for it to work with Vista or higher which may or may not help.
