Last night out of all games I was playing (Starmade) my computer made a loud "click" (guessing a circuit breaker switch sound) and the pc completely shutoff. I unplugged the PC and open the side hatch, sure enough that Smell of burnt plastic and wires filled my room. I started to hand test for heat all over my motherboard, CPU heatsink (V8) was normal, RAM felt normal, and VideoCard didnt feel hot at all. put my hand next to the PSU, sure enough you could cook an egg of it, that that is where the smell was coming from.

PSU was a Extreme Power 950w, and about 4 years old. rest is

Sabertooth x58 motherboard
i7 950 CPU
GTX 480
2gig DDR3 x 3

I tried to plug it in this morning and it was a nogo nothing powered. I was wondering what my next step is. My hardware side is limited but I'm component enough to take apart my computer with no issues.

Oh Fun!!! (Not Really). The only thing you can do is get a new psu. They aren't too expensive (About $90). You could probably just go with a 750w in my opinion, here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RJZQSW/ref=ox_sc_a...

Thanks everyone, after seeing some of the answer here, and looking around. Blown PSU isn't a very rare thing o.0 Well since i'm going to get a new PSU, I should probably upgrade the ram, Right now Im running 2GB DDR3 / 1600 MHZ MEMORY x3, What is the latest and greatest that I can upgrade too?

psu's can have a really long warranty, up to 7 years sometimes, you should see if you can RMA it. check with the manufacturers website.
