hi all
if we talk about GTX 780 TI
it has 875 Mhz clock speed and 3GB RAM,
I have seen most of websites rate this GPU as the best until the moment.
on the other hand, I have seen also GPUs got more than 875Mhz and even more memory but less performance !!!

can someone please explain what is behind the scene ?

thank you,

Solution
You can overclock the 780 Ti. I have an ASUS 780 Ti with a Base Clock of 954MHz and Boost of 1020MHZ and as the card uses GPU Boost 2.0 the card hits 1098MHz out of the box. I have overclocked the Base Clock to 1075MHz so the Boost clock is 1140 and with GPU Boost 2.0 built in the Clock speed hits a max of 1218MHz.

This is all achieved without altering the voltage.
I'll try to simplify it for you.
It all has to do with what chip is running at a certain frequency.
For instance, a chip with 3million transistors running at 1ghz
will perform more calculations than a chip with 3 million running at 750mhz, but that same chip will perform less calculations than a chip with say 6 million transistors running at 750 mhz.
The idea is the gtx 780 ti has enough cores/transistors to perform better than most other cards even if it is working at a lower clockspeed.

I hope that made sense.

As mentioned above - clock speed is not the only measure. How many core can allow much greater amounts of data to be processed in parallel. Also the size of the bus that transfers info is also important. Bigger bus + more cores will give you more computational horsepower. Now if all things are equal, raising the clock will give better performance.
