I am looking to upgrade my computer and the suggestion so far for a video card has been the R9 270x, which I agree looks good, I just have to decide on a model. I was looking on newegg and I noticed something. The MSI version is listed as 4GB while everything else is listed as 2GB. and the price is the same on all of them. So I wanted to know, should I just go ahead and get the 4 GB card, or is there some reason not to get that one that I can't see / don't know about.

MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

If you can get 4GB then get it it won't make sense on 1080p but above 1080p 4GB would be better!

You shouldn't be going above 1080p with a card like this. Only get the 4GB one if it doesn't cost more than the others. If it does, you're just wasting money.

Sorry about that. Then go for the 4GB version as it offers more headroom if you want to crossfire and go above 1080p.

get the 4gb card it will be helpfull even at 1080p the next generation of games will most likely break the 2gb mark even at 1080p some games already does like BF4 and titanfall and also if you go crossfire down the road or something you dont want to be stuck with 2gb of vram.

Tell me again how BF4 runs better @ 1080p with more VRAM:

In Far Cry 3 you can only see the difference with 4k:

did i said that BF4 run better with 4 gb?! no i didnt...but if you put textures to ultra and set supersampling (scalling) to anything above 110% then you will use 2250mb of VRAM in BF4...titanfall with uber texture on use 3.7gb of vram at1080p...

Of course more scaling will use more memory since it literally means rendering the image at a greater resolution and then downscaling it = above 1080p. Besides, do you think those settings would work out very well with a R9 270X?

Also, if VRAM usage goes over 2GB, it means that a 2GB card will not be able to output more than a few frames per second. So saying BF4 passes the 2GB mark is the same thing as saying BF4 runs significantly better with over 2GB of VRAM. So yes, you did say the 4GB card would do a better better at running BF4.

personaly im lucky i run a GTX 780 so i can play ULTRA preset and supersampling to 120% and still get my 60fps steady, but for me TEXTURES is what makes a game pretty, so even on a 270x i would put everything on medium but textures on ULTRA and 4xMSAA and i would supersample this to 120%...that would (for me at least) give me the best image possible...

I get where you're coming from, but still. If the GTX 780 has 3GB of VRAM does that mean it can't run Titanfall (which you said to use 3.7 GB VRAM) at max settings?

Yes that's exactly what it does mean, i have to turn down the texture setting one notch otherwise the game stutters really bad...luckily enough Titanfail looks just as bad with texture setting set to ''high'' only...even the texture inside the mighty titans dashboards are LOW quality textures...i can't explain myself why this game demand that much VRAM and use the ugliest texture set to be used in a game in years... LOL

I think we've got ourselves a "shittiest optimization of the year" nominee here.

Yes that game i think will get some prices in some category, i would also nominate it as ''lowest amount of content into a 60$ game'' seriously i think there is something like 16 guns (pistols and grenate and what not included) in the whole game, 3 type of titans...it's just i felt i got stolen my 60$...and it's sad because the game at first is pretty fun, you can move in this game like in no other, run on walls and stuff...but after a couple hours you hit the wall like you feel you already seen what was there to be seen...sadly
