Hello, I have an alienware laptop I am planning on getting rid of. Before I backup, I only want my web browser (chrome), my steam library, Starcraft II, Fraps, Origin and BF4 to be backed up. Is there anything else required that I need to backup? Can I also backup my os (win7)? I don't know much about PCs so keep it simple please.
Thank you!

Obtain an external drive
Browser - save your favorites
Steam Lib - save the steamapps folder
Same with Origin
Other games....save your current 'save games'
All other applications - save the actual install file or disks

Reinstall everything on the new PC.

OS? No. You'll need to purchase a new OS for the new PC, be it laptop or desktop.

Pretty much any 1TB external (or more) drive should work.

All you're doing is saving 'files'. You're not transferring installed applications and the OS.
And no, you can't do that....;)

Wait, so is there any way to transfer my files to a new computer?

That depends on what you mean by 'files'.
Your personal stuff? Music, docs, etc? No problem.

Applications? Those need to be installed with the new OS.

The OS? No.
