I'm doing my first build and I purchased a Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB HDD and a Samsung DVD reader/writer. These were both OEM products so all I got were the drives themselves. What cables do I need to purchase to connect both of these to the motherboard?

SATA cables most likely.
Take a picture of the connectors if you can and upload it.
If they look like this, SATA cables it is.

Ok my motherboard came with 2 SATA cables which look like they fit into the HDD and optical drive. The motherboard has 4 slots for SATA3. So I'll plug the other ends of the SATA cables in those slots.
Another question: My case has a fan controller on the front. Do I plug that into the cable for the fan? It fits. Or do both of these cables need to go to the mobo?
