I have a amd fx 8320 on a Asus m5a97 le r2.0 mobo with nvidia gtc 650ti and 8gb corsair vengence. my cpu shows 45-50 degrees on idle and shoots to 70-80 when i play games. i am using the stock cooler which came with the cpu. i tried changing the thermal paste but didnt help. my cpu is 6 months old and still under warranty. can it be an issue with the cpu? can i get it replaced under warranty? or should i go for an after market cpu cooler.? Please
Help.

You can replace the CPU, but this may not help if it is the motherboard. As others have said, that motherboard isn't the best choice for the higher power chips. The LE version is the light version of that motherboard. The standard m5a97 r2.0 is the middle, with the m5a97 r2.0 EVO being the highest of the three 970 boards, especially when using the 8 core, 120w chips.

No harm in returning the cpu for a new one if it doesn't take too much effort. At least after you put a new chip in, you will possibly eliminate one contender.

Just try not to bend any more pins ;)

That motherboard is a bad choice for that CPU. The LE version lacks vrm heatsinks and my guess would be those temperatures your reading are the cpu socket temps which is more than likely getting so hot from the VRM's.

no the temperature werent always like this.
i have a few temperature increase spikes after which i changed the thermal paste. i had an issue with my mobo so gave it for repairing and while removing the cpu i bent around 3 cpu pins which i later straightened.
Can the temperature rise be because of this?

is there any way to solve the vrm heatsinks problem? and cant i just replace the cpu instead of buying the cooler master 212 evo (which i had already considered) as it is still under warranty?
