How easy, or hard, is it to build a new system nowadays? I haven't done a ground up build since the 1980's, and that was a real challenge.....I have no problem with changing any of the hardware in any of my computer's these days, and am considering a new build as opposed to getting something from a builder like Origin PC (not that they are bad). Mainly to save time and money. Is it as simple as getting all the components, putting them together properly, and firing it up. Loading a new OS, and some drivers??? Or is it worth paying someone an extra 1000 or more to do it for you??

It is not too bad building your own PC, I have built a few and it does take a bit longer if you aren't as experienced with it, however, there are videos showing you how and giving you a tutorial of how to install each thing there is. There are tutorials on the Newegg youtube channel, teaching you how to choose your parts, build it, and install windows.
I also find it more satisfying knowing you had built it yourself.

Here is a build if you are willing to go a bit above 1000
What exactly are you building it for? Because this one can get just about anything done

The build I am considering is rather, I guess, top end...
Asus Rampage black edition
i7-4930k
2 NVidia 760's, SLI
500 gs SSD
1 tb HDD
16 gb 19200 memory
corsair case, power, and cooling
parts are about $ 2400 or so, so far
I want to this to last for a few years....
A similar build with Origin or Digital storm is about $ 3400-3900 delivered, granted that includes a guarantee, and I don't expect anyone to not profit, but I don't want to wait 3-4 weeks for my custom build either.

Excuse me for such a late response, what is your budget? I can try to build you the best PC for the price.
Also, do not SLI from the start. The way I see it is to get one strong card, so when you decide you want to upgrade, then you SLI. SLI is not supported on all games as well, so getting one strong card from the start is better.

Budget varies with the fact I want a system to be futureproof for about 5-6 years. Was originally looking at 2011 socket, but now am leaning towards haswell? Rather confusing to say the least......Budget w/o video cards is about 1800-2200.

Its a bit hard to 'futureproof' a system. however, there are great builds that will last a while, but may need some upgrading every now and then.
What is your budget WITH cards?

Well, I already have 2 Asus GTX 760's, so those cards were about $ 520.....

This idea of a new build stems from me trying to update an old Dell XPS 630i. I started with an SSD, which is great, then to 3 new 2560 x 1440 monitors, and this is where the trouble started......Now it is hard to do much with this old system. Hence, my new build. Although my budget is going down as I realize how quickly these old PC's pile up.....Got like 6 desktops and 3 laptops that I try to keep running. But tech just keeps on marching on, and I am addicted!!
