i have a older BFG Tech 680i sli mobo with a intel core 2 extreme qx6700. i was wondering if i would get better performance on games with a better graphics card (Sapphire 7700 currently) or would the cpu/ mobo be bottlenecking it

I did some research and you should be fine with your current cpu, but it isn't a bad idea to upgrade your backbone and get a better cpu. If you want the best performance at the moment then go with the 760 but eventually your cpu will be obsolete for most gpu's. If you plan on doing future upgrades then you should consider an i5 and a new mobo. That will take you a long way. But for the current state, yes a 760 will work fine.

The addition of getting another graphics card to sli will not bottleneck the mobo or cpu however if you have an older cpu like that, a game that requires some cpu power will still bring same effects due to the lack of efficiency from the cpu. My suggestion would be to upgrade the cpu before worrying about the gpu. It will bring out better results for a bit less money

I see what you're saying, but i wouldn't want to sli anything on it, as it is a older board. If i overclocked the cpu and ran a better card, say a 760, would there be any bottlenecking still? Also, the bfg tech board wont accept anything more than a kentsfield processor =(
