I'm building a new PC and I though I've earned myself a nice sound card after using on board audio on all of my builds. I'm split between the sound blaster and the xonar dx. Both are advertised for 7.1 surround and gaming. I'll be using the card for watching movies, videos, listening to music, and lots of gaming but only on a pare of stereo headphones, nothing else. I just want the one that has crisper audio, more amplified sound, and best 3d sound. Also good driver support would be nice. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Ive always heard that external soundcards are better because there is less electrical interference. Why not get a dac/amp combo with a digital input? That way you get a clean digital signal out of the pc, and its converted to analog for your headphones. What kind of headphones do you use? Probably low impedance ones. Check out Mayflower electronics, There Odac is freaking sick. If you want more powerful, clear, amplified sound, get a dac/amp and some quality headphones. There are lots of headphones to choose from in the $200-$300 range.

My headphones are very high quality but they are only stereo sound. And I'm going for a very clean build with as much expanability on the inside so I thought a sound card would be better than a Dac. Also there's way more good dacs than good sound card making them way harder to choose from and price varies too much. Thanks for the input though.
