Hi, I write here, because I need help in a matter of “cloud” data storage. I study philology, so I’m not so good in “computer stuff”, but I heard that you can storage some data on an outside server and access it whenever you want from different locations. I write my thesis on my computer at home and on my notebook at the library and each time I need to copy all the files on a pendrive, and then I get confused which file is what, which is the newest version, which is the older. I know I can send files to myself via e-mail but this is even worse and, additionally, I’m worried about google having access to my data (btw: is it true or am I really paranoid?). I googled Dropbox, but I’m not sure if I want to use it – my girlfriend has it and it somehow accidently overwritten her bachelor dissertation while synchronizing (?) some folder and she lost almost 10 pages of it. Searchengine suggested also ComZetta, but I’m afraid it will be too complicated for me to use. What do you suggest?

Google Docs. Edit it in the web browser.

Ok, I know Google Docs. But please tell me: does Google - as a service owner - may use my documents for their purposes (advertising, data gathering)? Maybe I'm weird, but I don't trust that if somebody gives me free service it guarantees that nobody will use it sooner or later. The most improtant thing to me is privacy and security of files, and that's why I'm considering non-free service, where as I belive files are only stored andnot used for mysterious providers purposes.

yes google is supected to take your data and make money out of it (LOL)
it depends on the size you need really....google gives you 15GB but is not trusted. i personally use microsoft one drive at the moment. they give you 7GB but you can even purchase more if you need it.
it has great features such as: make folders to seperate files, use microsoft office online with full features and share documents with other microsoft users

it's worth a try

acrobat.com is also good. you can store .PDF files there but the bad side is you only get 5GB for free

but you can try them out and choose the one you like best :)
