Hi everyone,

I recently bought an Asus R9 290 DC2OC which has their custom pcb and cooler, and tried overclocking it with disappointing results. At factory clocks, which are 1000mhz on the core and 1260mhz on the memory (Or 5040mhz effective), the card runs fine. I overclocked it to 1100mhz on the core, kept the same memory speed, and increased power target to 150%. I also upped the voltage by 30mV. The result is that after about 4-6 seconds, in which it reaches above 70c in Unigine Valley with ultra settings, it throttles down to lower than 900 mhz on core.

Any suggestions? Is there something I'm doing incorrectly?

Setting your power target to 150% is going to further overclock the card on top of the 1100MHz you've set. It may be that you're pushing the GPU beyond your cooling capabilities. Try leaving the power target at 100%. Raise your core to 1100MHz and your voltage up 30mv. See if that makes a difference. If it's good there, bump up your core in 20MHz increments as long as your stable. Back off when you have problems. If you want to use the power target for overclocking, leave everything else at stock and set your power target no higher than 120%. On air cooling, a 20% OC is going to be about your limit.
Also, is there a setting for GPU Temp Target? If it's set at 72c, it will throttle back when it reaches it.
