hey there fellow experts,

my question for you experts is what can i possibly do to calm my gpu temp down?

my system specs are:

AMD A8 - 5600k APU Normal Stock speed of 3.60ghz
8gb RAM
Windows & 64bit
Leadtek Nvidia 650Ti Boost 2GB Edition,

basically my gpu idles at around 30c but when i start gaming i notice it hits early 90s sometimes 95+, so i turn the dual fan on now just to try and keep it cool... just in fifa alone sometimes it hits 97c and thats with a huge household fan on it through the side panel as well...

ive just removed the heatsink + fans yesterday and cleaned all the dust and old thermal paste and put on some fresh one bought from Maplins and yet one game into fifa and it hit that 97c spot.

other day it hit 100c and i had to turn it off in fear it would just burn out...

ive read on nivida site that the card max temp is 97 and i even spoke to a advisor and he seemed to think it was normal operating temp under load, saying these cards run hot but surely 90+ is ridiculous.

any advise is welcome...

thanks

Do you have any case fans? If not I recommend purchasing some cheap ones from amazon.

thanks for your quick reply...

i have the side panel off at the moment with a huge household fan blowing onto it at the moment but it still hits 90+ temps, however i did have a 120mm fan mounted on the side panel and also a 80mm one on the front of the case down low... but theyre out of the question at the moment as the case is off for the fan to blow in

90+ is within spec, BUT most people would want to keep it under 80-85C. It will throttle and make itself safe when it maxes out on temp.

can you use afterburner, or precisionx from evga to control the fan speed for the gpu and make it more aggressive?

With MSI Afterburner you can speed your fans in your PC. Maybe putting them up a tiny bit, check if the fans get too crazy, if not put them up a little bit more, check if there going to quickly, ECT... ECT...

yh i was using msi afterburner to monitor temps and stuff, i had the gpu fan on 100%, but i cudnt clock down properly as it would just reset itself, its oc'ed out the box so i was trying to lower them but its like its got a set default that it wont go below... and without me controlling the fans they would only reach 80% maybe sometimes 90% to lower the temp...

What case are you currently using? Tell me and I will check if the cooling is ok on it.

I dont know why this is over heating. Weird. It looks as if it should be at like 30 degrees with that huge fan you've got blasting into it.

exactly, thats why im so puzzled, im trying gigabyte oc_guru now to underclock the card abit, lowering it down to the specs thats given on nvidia site in terms of core and memory clocks... ill see whats temps are like and report back

ok just played a game of fifa, no settings changed and with the big fan off and only the core clock lowered to the default it says on nvidia site, and my temp stayed below 60c, maybe the default OC settings that leadtek set on the card are too high... ive never heard of people having to underclock their card :D  but hey.... maybe they overclocked it too much? does anyone know the voltage that i shud have on it? at the moment its set to minimum 0.938v with the memory clock at 6008mhz and core at 980mhz
