So, I installed a new graphics card (Radeon R5450) in my old PC to transform it into a basic HTPC. When everything was (finally) running smooth I tried to connect it to my TV.
I have an old 48 inch Philips flat screen TV. It has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a refresh rate of 60Hz.

I have an HDMI to DVI cable that I connect from PC to TV. This is where it gets messy. Not one resolution fits on the TV. It is either way too small (black space of +/- 10cm on the left hand side and a black bar at the top of my screen) or it is way too big (that I can't see my task bar or 1/4 of my screen). My resolution is set at 1920 x 1080 at the moment. I'm forced to move my task bar to the top of my screen. A part of the right hand side of my screen is also missing
The screen is flickering in some weird way, and the text is nearly unreadable.

I tried every setting there is in Windows XP display and the Catalyst Control Centre. I even added some custom resolutions, without succes.

I'm pretty much clueless by now and I don't know what options I have left. Maybe it's just the age of the PC/TV?

As you have an AMD, run The Catalyst Control center, Under 'My Digital Flat Panels, go to Scaling options, adjust that & you'll probably be able to fill your display (you'll have to figure out what works for you TV display)
