My mobo comes with 3 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots. Does it matter which one i use?
I used the second one because of a few cables and my card is too long. Does that effect performance?

More about : pcie x16 slots

It does matter. The slots don't all have an x16 connection, even though they're x16-sized. What motherboard do you have?

using cpu-z and/or gpu-z will tell you how many lanes you are currently using, and therefore whether the slot you are using is acceptable.

It depends.

Older platforms used to require the primary GPU to be installed in the top slot, but I believe that most modern platforms do not require this.

If you have it installed in the second slot, and it runs, then it is working properly.

ok so i checked and it says it supports pcie x16 v3.0 but is running at pcie x8 v1.1

so i should redo my cable managment and put the card into the top slot right?

The top slot is the x16 one, the one you're using is x8 (at best, it's reduced to x4 if the bottom PCIe slot is populated).

Not that the difference between x8 and x16 is going to matter much. But apart from performance there are also potential compatibility concerns.

oh okay. well its only 2 cables so ill put my card into the right slot. It just seems my card is under performing a bit.
