Hello all,

I was looking at upgrading my graphics from a gtx 610 to something more better.

I have tried a GTX 750 ti but the system won't boot.

Has any one tried the RADEON HD 7970.

I have a Dell precision 690 with a 750 watt psu.

Any help would be grateful - Many Thanks

Atiq

even with the 750watt psu in that dell, it likely isnt rated for the power draw that the 7970 would need (amperage wise on the 12v rail)

remember to use a new gpu you need to completely uninstall all the drivers and software from the old one, as well as make sure the proper power connectors are in place for the new one. just because the 750ti didnt boot does mean it is the wrong gpu for you. you would likely have even more problems with the 7970 (not to mention it is roughly triple the price).

run driver sweeper in order to get rid of all the old software from your gtx 610,
make sure you remove the 610 from your system before installing the 750ti
make sure all power connectors are properly connected if any are required

Was the 750ti definitely plugged in properly, also did you reconfigure the bios or did you boot in safe mode and delete the old nvidia drivers and then install the correct drivers then reboot, if you did then RMA the card, I would stick with the 750ti.

I did not delete the old drivers as both cards where Zotac. The Bios is version A08 (2008) which is the current one from dell.

When I tried powering up the Dell 690, I got no picture only 2 bleeps (you would see the Dell logo but this never happened).

We tried the card in a new system and it worked fine.

Could it be the card is not compatible with the motherboard.

no, the card is compatible as long as it fits, that's how pci works currently. The only thing making it not compatible would be your power supply not delivering enough power to the motherboard to power the card without an external pci connector (power) since the 750ti draws all of its power from the motherboard slot
