xfx graphics card showing as intel 4000hd

so i have a xfx graphics card but in properties it is showing as an intel hd graphics 4000 card. why is this? please help! http:// -my graphics card

and do you by any chance have your monitor plugged into the motherboard?

the pc is custom built, but my other specs are i7-3770k, 8gb DDR3 ram, gigabyte z77-UD3H motherboard.
and i dont think so, its just plugged into the back of my pc.
the only other things in my pc that intel is my processer. and my motherboard has a z77 intel chip

The motherboard connectors are on the back of the pc too.
the graphics card should have connectors laid out horizontally, the motherboards' should be vertically.
Where is your monitor plugged?

Because you have to go into the bios of the motherboard.
Where it say in the graphics section.
Device to intitalize first.

There is a list, IGPU, Pci-e.
You must set Pci-e as the default selected graphics display device.
Connect your monitor cable to the XFX card.
Make sure you have, if required the power connectors connected to the graphics card from the PSU you have.

XFX card should be detected.
Install the latest driver or one supplied with the new card from the disk provided.

Plug it out of there, and connect it to one of the ports in your graphics card.

Then do what Shaun said. That should fix your issue.

Just plug the monitor in the card and see if it works.
If it does, just install the drivers for your card from the nvidia website.
All should be well.

i connected my hdmi/dvi cable to my gpu. and i changed my settings in the bios to pci (there is no pci-e) but the settings keep changing back to auto even after i saved and my monitor keeps using the vga. and there is no vga slot on the gpu.

Try keeping your monitor in the hdmi, and search the monitor menu for wake on hdmi option or something of the sort.
Leave the bios setting to auto.
I have a benq and the setting is named "hdmi auto switch"
Make sure that is on.

If you have a simple dvi cord, use that. Plug it into the dvi port on your card.

It should.
If it's hdmi at both ends and it fits the slot.

Well you said the monitor works if you connect it to the motherboard, it's just your gpu that's not sending signal.

Push buttons on the monitor

Get to its OSD, set its imput to HDMI.
