Motherboard question for an Intel

I'm preparing to build a computer for $1500-1700. I am getting hung up on the motherboard as this is my first build, and the MOBO and the CPU are two things I've never dealt with before. My initial thought was an Asus ROG Maximus VI Hero. Then someone knowledgeable said that was not that good and recommended the ASRock Z87 Extreme 4.

As you can see below I'm now considering the MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming.
