Windows 7 Moving to New PC

Hey guys, Im looking to build a PC and I have a laptop that i dont use with windows 7 on it, instead of me buying Windows 7 for the new pc can i just take the code and download it on the pc?

Unless the laptop originally had another OS installed and someone later installed a retail version of Windows 7 onto it, you cannot move that OS install to your PC. If the laptop came with Windows 7 installed, it's tied to that system and per the license agreement, cannot be moved.

With the hardware differences between a laptop & a desk top, it will not boot.
If the laptop is a prebuilt OEM laptop, Windows is tied to that system & can't be moved to another system.

Sell the laptop, and use those funds to buy a valid license for the new PC. As noted above, what you are looking to do will not work for multiple reasons.

What about if i take out the laptop harddrive and put it in the desktop?

Sell the laptop, OS included, and use those funds for an OS on the new PC. And a little bit of profit.

You cannot use that license on the new desktop.
