Motherboard bent pins

My friend and I recently installed a new i7 3770k, during the installation we noticed that the mobo had a bent pin. When we try to turn the pc on it turns on and then about 15 seconds later the big side fan light turns off and the computer shutsdown for about 5 seconds. After that the lights on the big side fan turns back on. The cycle continues with it powering off 15 seconds after boot. Could this be happening because of the bent pins? Also nothing comes up on the screen during this time of it turning off and on (not even the bios of the mobo).

A single bent pin can cause total failure depending on which pin. I would advise against powering on the system or even having power supplied to the system until the motherboard is replaced. If the bent pin was forced into contact with other pins when you installed the CPU it has the potential to damage your CPU.

Return the motherboard and get a replacement.

The only way to tell if the CPU was damaged, aside from any noticeable burn marks, is to test it in a new or working motherboard.

Worst case scenario would be that it fried the CPU as soon as power was connected or turned on. Best case would be no damage at all. Its hard to guess beyond that since we do not know which pin it was that was damaged or if the pin ended up touching other pins.
