I recently bought a 1TB Hitachi Ultrastar 7200rpm 32mb cache HDD and what happened was when I first plugged it in it started making a really loud scratching noise for about 30 sec to a minute then it just dies. Right now my computer is running off of a 500GB Toshiba S3600 External HDD and I only have access to it for another week or two since it isn't mine. I bought this HDD off of eBay and this is the second time I get a HDD with problems, first time I got one that was beeping and didn't work and got a full refund for it, now this one just makes noises and dies and is not detected by bios or windows setup. Can anyone tell me if there is any possible way to fix this or do I have to order another and wait another couple weeks?
Also it only powers on from sata not on peripherals, it used to work on peripherals but now doesn't.

That is a dead HDD, I recommend trying to send it back, getting your money back and buying new, also I don't recommend Hitachi, I would go for something like a WD HDD, new. They are much more reliable and perform better. Don't cheap out on components, I rarely buy off ebay, maybe for leads.

Yeah I thought it was dead, I'm not using eBay anymore, when I get them in the mail they all appeared to be dead. Probably gonna goto fry's and get a brand new one.
