Hello,

I am trying to figure out what graphics cards I should be purchasing for my application. My application requires 3 video outputs (VGA, but I can do with DVI/HDMI with a VGA-DVI/HDMI adapters). The system needs to be Linux compatible.

I have been searching newegg, amazon and I can see that the chipsets (nVidia or ATI) is linux compatible, but when I search for the drivers in the respective vendor websites, I do not see any Linux compatible drivers. For instance, for the EVGA graphics card listed here: (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826), the chipset is GE Force GTX 600). When I go to the EVGA website, (http://www.evga.com/support/download/) with their listed drivers, I do not see any linux compatible drivers. However, for Linux, there are compatible drivers, as listed here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/51453

Hence, my question is, how to go about searching for linux compatible drivers ? How do I be sure that the graphics card I am purchasing will work with Linux ? Is this graphics card compatible with Linux ?

I apologize if this question sounds silly, but I haven't used systems with Linux before, hence my knowledge is somewhat limited.

Thanks much!

AMD has in the past had the better Linux drivers, but you could always get Nvidia driver, but it was a separate propitiatory driver agreement.

Seems to me recently Nvidia has stepped up their support of Linux, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Actually it's the other way around. AMD's OpenGL support has been spotty at best while NVidia's, while not perfect, has been far better.

no doubt you are right.
I never did anything but surf with Linux, so I probably never noticed how good the drivers were.
I just remember with the old computers I deal with, Nvidia drivers don't always load, but AMD drivers always do.
I give them away, so I never see them again.
