Graphics card and motherboard compatibility question

Solution
The H81 chipset in your motherboard only supports a PCIe 2.0 x16 port. But it doesn't matter anyway, because 2.0 and 3.0 are fully compatible, and the extra bandwidth of the 3.0 is completely unnecessary with current graphics card (even more so a low-end one like the GT 640).

That card will work fine. PCIe is a backward compatible format. And PCIe 3.0 is mainly for SSDs anyway. No card today can saturate the bandwidth of even the PCIe 2.0 format @ x16 lanes. But the GT 640 is a pretty weak card for gaming. Have you considered the GTX 750/750 Ti?

I don't plan on gaming too much. Mainly Minecraft, nothing too gpu extensive. I also didn't want to spend to much, so I think this card will be great. Thanks though!
