Proper way to install a SSD with windows 7 "to plug or unplug"

Toms,

Finally going to move my OS drive to an SSD. Probably going to go with crucial. Anyway, I'll have a one terabyte mechanical hard drive in the same system (also the current boot drive).
I'm guessing I need to format the 1tb current drive before installation.
I read where some people keep the mechanical drive unplugged during windows 7 installation? Is this still necessary? My computer is away from my desk and not super accessible. If I have to pull it out to work on it I would rather plug everything in once. Thank you in advance.

no need to unplug your hdd
unplugging hdd is for avoiding stupid mistake, like you cant recognize which drive to be formatted
you just need to set ssd as the 1st boot :)
