Nvidia's shadowplay and possible bottlenecking?

I purchased the evga sc acx 780 ti card and when I try to use shadowplay on battlefield 4 my game becomes unplayable. My frames jump constantly from 100 to 0 so them game completely sticks. I have an awful motherboard, a asrock z87 pro 3 mobo, could it be a bottleneck?

My other specs are: i5 4670k
g skillz ripjaws series 8gb
1 tb WD HDD
Windows 8.1
corsair 750 watt 80 plus gold

cheers!

I would say its probably your hard drive causing bottleneck not cpu. I record on a second hard drive with write speeds greater than 150+ mbs on dxtory and it runs prefect even when files exceed 70 gbs. I would recommend getting a 80 gb ssd for recording purposes and if you can get a bigger ssd that would be better.

I quite luckily have an 250 GB SSD. I didn't want to record to it as I thought eventually erasing from an ssd would wear it down. Thanks i'll give it a go and get back to you.

Shadowplay captures at 60fps maximum, so lock BF4's framerate at 60 by using "Adaptive V-Sync" from the Nvidia control panel. An SSD is not necessary for Shadowplay as long as you have a secondary HDD. While the higher write speed of the SSD would certainly be helpful, especially at 100mbps+ quality, I personally have used SP to capture Crysis 3 at max settings (0xAA) at 1080p/60fps/50mbps, on a regular 7200rpm Seagate HDD, without any problems.
