better way to go would be an i3 build as the socket allows for an i5 upgrade. Either way at $500 you aren't going to get a future proof cpu off the bat.

Go for Intel core i5...

I would recommend an FX-6300 for $110 and an AM3+ Asus or Gigabyte motherboard of your choice. The 6300 is more powerful than an I3 or 760K and it's close to most of the I5s.

the 6300 doesn't even play in the same league as the i5s, the 8300s fall behind the i5s in gaming apps.

Of course an I5 is better than a 8300 for gaming, there's not any games that makes use 8 cores and more cores mean slower clock speeds. The I5 is also better than the 6300, but at least for gaming the performance difference is almost non existent.
