raspberry is cool:)  i own one and ist a nice little toy. But you must remember it won't replace your PC! even with the raspbian it runs slow and simple things take for ever. the xmbc is also very VERY slow and crashes a lot, i get it's cheap but with that price you can buy used laptop and install linux on it or windows or what ever you want, and it will perform better. But its only performance so if you wont to buy something to learn python or mess around in general with it its a nice little Pi:)

I have opinions here but first, what are your intentions for the micro PC? Simply for experimenting and prototyping or, as a NAS, HTPC, home automation, or... just what are you wanting to do with it?

Although I like the Cubieboard, I did find one thing that may be of interest for prototyping: "If you want to play it safe, you should probably go with an Arduino or a Raspberry Pi.
If you are more audacious, it will depend on your need.
I like the CubieBoard a lot, even if its GPIO pins are 2mm (really painful…) instead of the usual 2.54mm (1/10 inch)."

found here http://techwatch.keeward.com/geeks-and-nerds/arduino-vs... which is a good comparison page IMO but I did notice that there is no info on the BeagleBone Black which I would think may be another option. If considering Android development projects, the BeagleBone Black or CubieBoard would be my prime choices.
A major advantage of the Pi is it's community and the information and support available for it so that may also be a factor
