current build

AMD A10 7850K Black Edition Quad Core CPU + Integrated Radeon R7 Series Graphics

ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+

Corsair CS450M CS Modular 80 Plus GOLD-RATE 450W 12V Power Supply or Corsair CS550M CS Modular 80 Plus GOLD-RATE 550W 12V Power Supply £12 difference for 100w extra

Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced USB 3.0 Mini ITX Case

G.Skill Ripjaws-X Main Memory 8 GB 2,133 MHz 240-Pin 2x 4GB CL9 DIMM DDR3 RAM Kit

Sapphire AMD R9 270X OC 4GB

the case has a 120mm front fan and an 80mm side fan the cpu has a stock amd fan and the GFX has dual fans

its currently set to run on full and the temps speecys showing is 46 degrees for the socket and 38-46 for the gfx card.

im about to install a Compucase CF-V12HP Cougar Fan with Hydro-Dynamic Bearing,MTBF300,000hrs and Auto Sensor Control in the front and move the 120mm front fan to the hdd bay to assist with push pull through the hdd bay.

what i want to know is the best CPU cooler that wont interfere with the fins of the memory but fit the board accounting for the low clearance available.

any help is greatly appreciated.

I would probably eliminate the small 80mm side fan since you will have 2 x quality 120mm fans now, plus the air that will be circulated by the Big Shuriken. It sounds like you have your temps better controlled now. I would have used an AIO liq cooler like the H60 in mine, but I could never think of a good location for the fan/rad.

I used to have that case with a similar set up: A10-5800K/HD 7870 OC. I had the same issue. The case is so small with poor ventilation that heat builds up quickly. Like you, I moved the front fan to the drive bay blowing on the CPU. But adding another front fan will help a lot more. The little side fan is almost worthless.

Do you have your PSU w/fan facing up or down? I had mine facing up so it wouldn't rob air flow from the CPU cooler. At the time I couldn't find a LP cooler that I liked and wanted to spend the money for. But you may want to check this out: http://www.frostytech.com/top5_lowprofile_heatsinks.cfm

i have it facing down but what ill do is switch its oreitation tonight. is it worth moving to a bitfenix Colossus Mini-ITX or Prodigy. just seems as if this builds costs are on the up and up.

The Prodigy is much better designed for air flow. I have the white version of that case. The only thing I don't like about it, is the side panel has all those cables attached. Hard to do good cable management. But it is a well designed, well built case. The Colossus I'm unfamiliar with.

Another drawback of the Prodigy is the limited length for the PSU. The newer version has been redesigned to allow cables to pass thru the end. But the drive bays sit so close, you almost have to remove it to make use of that feature. In my case, my 750W PSU needed some "modification" to the modular cables' heat shrink boots to make it work with the drive cage in place.

so Ive installed the fan (had to remove everything) the temps have dropped and specys saying its 32-36 degrees idle on the cpu socket the gfx also dropped. im thinking to put in another cougar to replace the front fan and remove the case side fan.

Ive bought a Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B (0.2" clearance from the dimms) and will be replacing the stock fan. is it worth replacing the side fan with a be quiet 80mm model? considering the back of the GFX is where that air would be going not too sure. if only cooler master cold a dual 80mm backet to have a pair setup.

i wouldn't recommend the case personally. go for the 130 as its a load more configurable.

people drilled the rivets out of the drive cage to make room, honestly things got fixed with the 130 cases. once a get the Shuriken in i'll Finnish up with the new front fan. thanks for the advice
