Sorry if any questions I ask are stupid, my brother recently passed down a custom gaming system he made last year. It is already a very powerful and cool computer, but I wanted to up the GPU a bit and I wanted to do it all myself. This is my first time working on a PC, and I have certainly done my reading up on it. My first question is, with this current build, would upgrading to a higher GPU require me to upgrade any other parts? The system currently has.

Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS

G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3

AMD FD6300WMHKBOX FX-6300 6-Core Processor Black Edition

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB SATA III 7200 RPM

ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB RAM

I am considering upgrading it to a

XFX Radeon 7950 R7950 3GB Core Edition Video Card

Will upgrading to this card require any additional parts to be upgraded?

Solution
You shouldn't need to upgrade anything. The XFX card should have more or less the same power needs as the old one, so you should be good!

If you have the system already and just want to upgrade the GPU, upgrading to the 7950 would be a bit of a waste of your money. Upgrade to at least a gtx 760 / radeon 280x. Otherwise you will be paying for a whole new card and not get a lot of extra performance in return. What is your budget for a new card? The 760/280x can run battlefield 4 on ultra ;).
