Long story short - I've got an XP computer in a medical facility that I need to disable internet/outside access on but keep file sharing through a mapped drive enabled. Does anyone know how to set this up?

Remove DNS entries(or use bogus DNS) from the XP machine, use the host file to specify what it really needs to get to (domain controllers, server for file shares, Intranet, etc). When it looks to DNS to resolve websites, it will fail, effectively rendering the internet useless.

I would only do this for 1 or 2 machines because it would require a lot of care and feeding if there is a lot of these machines.

This is not necessarily an illegal activity. The file sharing (intended) seems to be on the internal network only. Could simply be medical records.

Removing the default gateway in the IP settings would take care of removing Internet access on the XP system.

Lol, no illegal activity here. There is a machine that takes scans that has XP installed on it. We do not want this machine to have any outside access, but still need to send the files to another computer in the office.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll try them out!
