Hello, I just had an issue arise last night while working on my computer. After getting home from work, I went to boot up my computer to get some extra stuff done, did what I needed and then started making dinner. After I finished eating, I went back to my computer and noticed it was off. Once booting it up again, a message popped up stating that "Windows recently recovered from a critical error." From what it looked like, my computer blue screened and crashed. As this is a new computer, I got it this past Christmas, it never crashed before, nor had any issues. I rebooted my computer again and then attempted to surf the internet. However, I noticed my computer would not connect (wired directly to modem) to the internet and was giving me the error "Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I tried resetting the modem, multiple times, I plugged the cable into my fiancee's computer to make sure that wasn't the issue, she had internet. Also, I opened the CMD and ran /ipconfig all, ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, rebooted, did nothing, attempted to completely disconnect from the network, reboot and reconnect, nothing. I made sure that the DNS, DHCP, and required internet functions were active, they were. As a last ditch resort, I restored my system to a previous time before the issue occurred; that did not help either.

At this point I am considering restoring my computer back to factory settings if I cannot get the issue fixed. I have read multiple posts, articles, and solutions online and nothing has worked. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Press start, type cmd. Now in the cmd box type: ipconfig /release Hit enter and then type: ipconfig /renew

If that doesn't work try this.

From a different computer download the LAN drivers for your motherboard and put them on a USB, now install them onto the computer with the problem from the USB.

I had already tried the release, renew fix in the CMD, it did not fix the issue. I will try downloading the LAN drivers for my mobo and see if that will do anything. Where do I find the serial number for the drivers so I know which to download?

Do you have a router or is this thing a modem/wireless gateway?
Is the modem heavy as in having a battery in it? IF yes unplug it and remove the battery for 30 seconds then put the battery back in and plug it in. Then your computer should work and your fiancés will not work. Why? A hint is it has to do with your ____________

Thanks Ryan, I will go ahead and give that a try, hopefully it will resolve the issue, I will keep you updated.

It is a modem/wireless gateway, Comcast to be exact. However, it is a newer version so there are no battery in the box.
