My keyboard or touchpad aren't working at log in on Toshiba laptop windows vista

I added avast and had to restart my laptop. After that happened I haven't been able to sign in. My keyboard and touchpad are frozen at log in. Anyway I can restore or override the password so I can fix this. Help.

Start Windows in safe mode and uninstall Avast.

Turn on your laptop and immediately keep tapping F8.
Highlight "Safe Mode" at the top of the startup menu, then press <Enter>.
Uninstall Avast, then try normal start up.

Do not re-install Avast. Find an alternative antivirus package.
