Hey guys, how are y'all?
I am having a problem with the RAM on my pc. I have 3 x 2GB DDR3 RAM sticks but only 2GB shows up in Windows and BIOS.
Someone here had a similar problem and he was advised to remove his RAM sticks and insert them in again, which worked. I did the same thing and ran the Windows Experience Index and Windows picked up 3 x 2 GB correctly. Everything was fine for half an hour before I received a message saying new hardware has been detected and I was back to 2GB again.
I checked BIOS, and like Windows, it only shows 2 GB.
I ran the inbuilt Windows Memory Test and no problems were detected. I also downloaded and ran Memtest86+ v4.20 for more than 20 hours (51 passes) and nothing showed up there either.
Surprisingly, Memtest86+ picks up all 6GB. This information conflicts with Windows and BIOS and its very confusing!
I then phoned the company where I bought my pc from - I have a custom made gaming rig - and explained the situation to a guy from tech support and he was stumped too.
What befuddles me even more is that I haven't carried out any hardware changes since I bought the pc. Also, because I use this machine mostly for gaming the only software I installed in the past one year are Windows 7 updates.
So I'm all at sea now and would greatly appreciate any feedback on this issue.
I will put up screenshots from various diagnostic tools in the next post.
I apologise for the length of this post but thought I'd give as much info as possible. Thank you.
