I have a 780 gtx 3gb card now, apparently soon I can for about 50 bucks upgrade to a 6gb card,
Now I only 1080p gaming on a 144hz monitor, and im in a mini itx case so sli is out. So question is do you think like in two years ill be glad for the extra memory or since im not dual montoring, or sli'ing I wont be needing more then 3gb for the next say 4-5 years which is how long I intend to keep my card.

Solution
Double that notion. For 1080p, the most a game will likely (guessing here) use is 3-4GB of VRAM, and that's probably a good 5? years away. Again, just guessing. But unless you are playing at a large resolution (or multiple monitors) there's no reason to go past 3GB.
