so i was at school using my hard drive normally and when i got home and plugged it in i heard the normal noices of it spinning up but the blue led was not coming on and the computer wasnt finding the hard drive

is it possible to fix it ? if not can can i still recover the data ??

You can possibly do data recovery on it with some hard drive data recovery freeware. After that try reformatting your hard drive.

Also if you are using this for school it is a bad idea to constantly carry it back and forth from school to home. External hard drives have moving discs of course and you can accidentally bump your backpack and mess it up. Flash drives are suggested and you can get them for fairly cheap. Keep the external at home and a 32gb flash drive for on the go.
