Fan is Nzxt FX 120lb. I would have liked to just use normal screws, but the included screws are very short and I don't see how they are supposed to work.

Put them in through the outside of the case and through the first hole of the fan, not through both. Then grip and pull them through, you'll feel it settle in the groove. They don't hold them super-tight or anything, so don't be afraid of a tad bit of give.

I don't bother with those , just use your screws.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm also wondering how would I put in the regular screws that came with it, if I wanted a more secure fit?

These screws are very short with wide threads, were they not designed to go in the front of the case?

You only put in the rubber plugs, no screws. Or you put in the screws only, no plugs. Like I said, they aren't meant to hold it super tight against the case, just give spacing between the case and fan to reduce noise transfer.
