Guys, so I am a IT professional who a lot of work on data architect. I am trying to be build home pc that can handle my work and my personal entertainment (pc games, netflix ect...) Budget up to 2k budget for this......I am not sure if this mean a desktop or server.... Any advise? Thanks!

The question I would ask would be if the data you're going to be working on is stored locally or will you need to connect to a remote location for it? I'm just not sure how much RAM you're going to need. That's going to depend on the size of your data files/queries (as well as stored locally or remotely).

If the data is stored locally, what I'd be thinking is an Intel Core I7 processor with 16GB of RAM; depending on how much memory you'd typically need for daily work. I'd probably be running Windows 7/8.1 Professional with a Virtual Machine server running in the background.

Yes, I am kinda thinking using VMware to host 6 linux (splitting the DB tier and Application tier). Was thinking about buying the 64gb setup vs server. But yes I will run host machine on win 7 then 6 VMs on linux, each allocating 4 gb of ram. Thanks
