Is my system good enough for £500 build?

Currently under going my first build. I've spent a few months researching and sourcing my different parts, with a little previous knowledge of computing, with a few mishaps along the way (bought i5 4750k which wasn't supported by my chipset) now coming to the final stages, my final part dispatched (GPU arriving at the end of the week). However, I still feel like I could have done better. Any advice or tips would be great. My specs are as follows:

Asus P8 Z77-V LX
Intel i5-3350p
Corsair 1x8gb vengeance
WB 1tb
Sapphire 7850 OC edition
Corsair cx600 modular

I understand I could have picked an unlocked CPU for overclocking opportunity that comes with my MB... But is there anything else I could have done better?

Ah yes, the dreaded RAM, I made the mistake of buying a similar vengeance model that was not supported by MB (4gb 1600 CMZ), so bought 8gb 1600 CML model instead, which was supported. Will this single stick run ok for starters?

I know that I really have no need for a second stick of 8gb later on but I bought the single stick 8gb with upgrading in mind. So would single stick run ok for a few months until I add another or would I be significantly hampering my system performance by not using dual channel straight away?

Should probably also add I'm using aftermarket cooler (Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO) and windows 8. 1 Front panel fan + 1 side panel fan.. For intake. With my Hyper acting as exhaust.

I suppose my question is... Have I don't well in matching and configuring parts, airflow, and pricing for a mid range build capable of running new games with ease?

I'd say this is a pretty solid build for 500 pounds. Now the question "Is it good enough?" Well what are you going to be using it for? What games ? etc. I would highly suggest getting another 8gb of ram (same brand etc) so they are paired, that way you can truely use the ram to its full potential. You are loosing 7-12% of what it could be by not pairing them.

Just make sure before you OC your CPU that you have enough air flow in your rig, never OC it without enough fans/coolents(lq cooling etc).

Haha very true!

I'll be mainly gaming civ5, bf4, Rome total war2 and maybe looking at newer games as they come along. I figure that my system will handle it for a few years to come, even if not always on the highest settings, right?

I haven't got an unlocked CPU so no overclocking there but I did get the OC 7850 1gb to compensate for that. Will this card alone be ok for playing at 1080p?

Thanks for the replies. I'm loving my first build and can't wait to get it up and running, just dreading something going wrong or bad system performance!

Yes it is good for the price and a decent gamer.
