I just purchased the Noctua NH-D14 and it only has three pin plugs for both fans, so they wont adjust speed-wise. I had a lot of people say it's one of the top coolers. And my cpu is running hotter even at idle than with the Zalman CNPS 9700 or 9900. I'm thinking I should purchase fans with the 4-pin connectors and ones that have higher RPMs and airflow than the ones it came with. What do you think? I tried adjusting the speed through the software and it says that these fans can't be controlled.(RPM-wise)

It is one of the top air coolers available. You must not have it secured correctly to the CPU. I do not control the fan speeds of mine, and under heavy overclocking (see sig) my temps average in the mid-50s in a typical 25C indoor ambient temp condition, well below the Zalman 9700LED which is what my NH-D14 replaced.
