I have a stock cooler for an i5-2310, which is socket 1155, and im wondering if it will fit on my socket 775 motherboard? One of the plastic retention clips broke on my current one.

anyone have some info? Also I am assuming it will be a more powerful cooler. I looked online, the i5 is somewhere around 75 or 95 watts, where as the intel core 2 duo in there is like 65 watts.

They are not compatible, you would need to buy a universal cooler like a hyper 212+ or one specifically for 775.

Can you link me a site for proof? Or was this from your personal experience? I put the 1155 cooler over the 775 cooler and they seem to be the same.

I read somewhere that the socket 775 holes are 72mm away from eachother, but 1155 holes are 75mm apart. Anyone know?

They are not compatible, the holes are wrong. You need surgery to make em fit, as per the link.

Nothing is stopping you from trying though.
