I have recently bought a new hard drive,1tb Seagate Barracuda 64mb cache, and wanted to install windows unto it. I did so and after I tried doing crossfire with my two gpu's I bluescreened constantly so I decided to reinstall windows and not install any drivers that might impede AMD's drivers.. But should a format using cmd, fs=ntfs, really take almost 72 hours while only %72?

PC Specs:
MoBo: Asus M5A97 R2.0
CPU: FX-8320
PSU: Corsair CX750M
GPU: XFX 7850 DD 2gb x2 Xfired
RAM: Various - Kingston Hyperx Black 4gb 1600mhz
HDD: Various - 1tb Seagate Barracuda ST 1000DM003
OS: Windows 7 x64
[strike]AMD Driver: 13.?official - 14.2beta[/strike]

P.S. I think AI Suite might have caused the driver problems... Any ideas on that part?

You'll need to format it from within windows using fast format, or, then if you're installing Windows, let the installation disc do the formatting and partitioning of the drive.
Although we would always advice you not to use Large capacity drives for the OS, you should use something like a 260 to 500GB HDD for the OS, better still if you can afford one, a 120GB SSD would be great for the OS, and keep all the data and installation directories for programs which will occupy a lot of space on the 1+ TB HDD.

PS: It would be a good idea to mention HDD model numbers and mobo's and processors when asking for such answers , because, on older XP systems running on pentiums, it could take even a week to format a 1TB drive.....

It is no longer possible for me to use quick format as Windows doesnt exist on any of my HDD atm.

I should add that I am using command prompt from within the installation disc by utizing Shift+F10 before the install.

Don't get into the command prompt console unnecessarily, unless you have reason to do so, windows has simplified the whole making of the files systems and TOC, use the GUI and get it done.
Life is complicated enough, we don't need to make it more, do we?

I only did it through the command prompt because I was no longer able to install windows onto the new hdd because there were no partitions available.

My question is.. Should it take almost 3 days to format?
